About
Our Story Begins
Hoosier Equipment Service has been in business as an environmental construction services company operating in central Indiana since 1978. We’ve evolved from a humble gas station service and maintenance company to an industry leader in the Midwest, providing turn-key solutions for environmental construction and remediation challenges.
The Three Brothers
James Farmer purchased the business in 1978 and his brother Ralph Farmer immediately went to work running the day to day operations. In the 80’s, the environmental industry began to take shape as new rules went into effect. We experienced a natural transition into this newly emerging industry.
As the environmental industry grew, so did the need for tank removal and associated remediation services. This prompted the third Farmer brother, Charlie, to leave his position with the Indianapolis Parks Department and join his two brothers full time.
The company continued to provide tank service and maintenance for facilities but added remediation services. Over time, the day to day work grew to include other industrial decontamination services, demolition, earthwork and mechanical remediation system installations.
A Daughter’s Pursuit
In 2002, after relentless pressure on her father and uncles, the Farmer brothers finally agreed to let James’ daughter, Heidi, join the company. Heidi left her position at Simon Property Group to become Sales and Marketing Coordinator for the small, family business. Heidi’s business degree and time spent at a large corporation ignited a fire to impact the small business her father and uncles had successfully built over that first 25 years.
In 2006, Heidi purchased her father’s shares and became a majority owner. Heidi (Farmer) Brumback and Ralph Farmer remained partners through 2013 when Ralph Farmer passed away from cancer.
Our Strength Is Our People
We take great pride in continuing the legacy that was established by the Farmer brothers. We focus on providing our client with an excellent experience that involves strong communication and hard-working staff delivering efficient results in the field.
Operating as a second-generation, woman-owned small business, Hoosier Equipment continues to be a trusted partner in the industry. Today, the most recognized industry names trust Hoosier Equipment to implement their projects. We hope to continue sharing our small business story for many years to come!
